PR INTEGRATED (India) highlights India–Oman CEPA Driving Trade Growth and Expanding Market Access

The India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) came into effect on June 1, marking a major step forward in bilateral trade relations. The update was shared by PR INTEGRATED, your Connecta partner in India, highlighting its relevance for trade flows, export activity, and supply chain connectivity. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the agreement will provide immediate benefits for Indian exporters and strengthen cooperation across goods, services, and professional mobility.

Under the CEPA, India gains duty-free access on 98% of Oman’s tariff lines, covering more than 99% of Indian exports to the Omani market. More than 10 consignments were already being shipped under preferential terms as the agreement came into force.

Oman is positioned as a strategic gateway to the Gulf, Asia, Africa, and the Indian Ocean region, with Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah serving as key logistics hubs.

The agreement benefits sectors including textiles, sportswear, gems and jewellery, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, engineering goods, sports goods, agriculture, meat products, leather goods, plastics, automobiles, and marine products, supporting MSMEs and exporters with expanded market access.

A key provision removes Oman’s restriction on unpolished marble exports, supporting raw material sourcing for Indian industries.

In services, the CEPA enhances mobility for professionals including intra-corporate transferees, contractual service suppliers, business visitors, and independent professionals.

In pharmaceuticals, Indian generics approved by regulators such as USFDA, EMA, or UK MHRA are expected to receive marketing authorization in Oman within 90 days.

India–Oman trade continues to include crude oil, LNG, fertilizers, and Omani dates, with total imports from Oman reaching USD 7.2 billion in FY 2026.

The agreement forms part of India’s broader trade strategy to expand global market access through multiple free trade agreements and ongoing negotiations with several international partners.
