SouthCross Logistics, your Connecta partner in Argentina, has successfully executed the transport of a complete lithium purification plant from China to South America, marking a significant industrial logistics operation in the region. The project, led by the company’s Salta office, has become a milestone in the sector due to its scale, complexity, and the extreme conditions under which it was carried out.
The operation required over 200 trucks, including numerous oversized vehicles, organized in indivisible convoys. Each production line was transported as a fully assembled set, requiring up to 38 trucks to unload simultaneously at the port.
The route presented several challenges, including heavy snowfall at Paso de Jama and a tsunami alert on the Pacific coast. Despite these conditions, the cargo was moved within six weeks, avoiding extra costs related to storage, demurrage, and truck standby.
At the Port of Iquique, SouthCross coordinated with authorities to manage the port’s limited capacity and ensure uninterrupted unloading, documentation, and workflow across shifts.
SouthCross provided full-scope project management, including special permits, police escorts, customs coordination, on-site supervision, procurement of cranes, safety equipment, packaging materials, and engagement of an independent surveyor to document the operation.
